Network Marketing|Is this Really Happening ?|Why I chose Avon|Chattanooga, TN

Joining Avon is not a step back. As most of my friends know, I have been with many companies in network marketing. When I left my full-time job as a Call Center Representative last year, I had to try something different -- which I did, and was a miserable failure. Although I had an excellent product and company, something was missing. I was not able to duplicate myself, which as you know is a killer in network marketing.

Only after failure, did I decide to do something again which I had done in my early days. I had previously been involved with Avon twice (once while pregnant with my son) who is now 37, and another time when he was in the third grade. As a single mother, I found that the expenses necessary to work, ate up my profits from a traditional job. At the time, I was actually working two jobs (during the day as a Legal Secretary, and then in the evenings as a waitress). It's not what you make; it's what you keep.

I had one of those moments many people call an epiphany. I was riding back from the funeral of one of my uncles, and was telling about my job to a relative I hadn't seen in awhile, when I realized I hated my job. I felt tied behind a desk. It was at that moment when I decided a change had to be made. It wasn't that the job was bad or anything; I was just feeling like I was being robbed. My expenses to work included gas to and from downtown, parking, nice clothes, and a baby-sitter for after school. Another moment occurred when I overheard my boss talking to his wife about a sweater they were getting his son for Christmas, and realized the cost was more than a week's salary for me. I also heard a lady discussing with him a situation where a man was involved, and stated that ("he's our kind of people"). In my 30's, I began to ask myself what kind of person I was and what, if any, values did I have. I wasn't sure of my own values; I only knew they did not include a materialistic mindset or classing myself as determined by others. There were some benefits greater in life than possessions.

I wanted to stay with my son. When I told him I had left my job, he actually started jumping up and down; he was happy that I would be there when he got off the bus from school. Those were good days. I was successful with Avon, and soon entered the prestigious President's Club, which was awarded  based on sales. The pay was ok with Avon, but to me, the money was not the most important thing I received when I began concentrating on Avon more seriously. Freedom was the primary benefit. 

After my failure with another well-respective skincare company, I decided to give Avon another try. So, here I am, about two months later, already making Unit Leader (which is a title given based on sponsoring and group sales effort). I find that it is easy selling Avon -- basically you are just an order taker. 

I am having to start over, however, developing a customer base. The investment I am using to do this is to order 200 catalogs/a campaign -- which costs me about $40. This is to do what is called tossing. Besides the orders I have received, I also sponsored one of my new reps when she opened the door and I asked her if she were interested. Avon just has so much to offer. There is something for everyone. With only $10 startup fee, it is affordable for anyone.

If you are looking for an opportunity to make some extra money, I recommend Avon. It may not be your final destination, but it could be your starting point -- especially if you don't have much of an investment budget. You can start earning money right out the gate.

Avon is fun, exciting and has opportunity for anyone who has a work ethic. You can't just sit back and think the orders are just going to roll in. For the most part, for me, that hasn't happend; even though I do have one rep who makes extra money by having her daughter, who is a waitress, take it to work. Another one of my reps has many of her customers placing orders online.

My first goal was to win the I-Pad Avon was giving away for signing up 8 reps (who placed at least a $50 order and paid on time). It looks like I have accomplished that goal!! The next goal was to achieve Unit Leader Status which would give me the opportunity to earn up to 7% on the sales of those I had personally sponsored, as well as up to 1% on my 2nd generation. Unit leader advancement also gave me an extra one-time bonus of $250 and a $25 bonus for those I had personally sponsored (when they turned in an on-time order amounting to $50 or more). I've done this 9 times. It does take awhile for the bonuses to start coming in. Avon also gives at least 20 potential representative leads when a person promotes to Unit Leader.

What is Avon like after coming back since the mid-80's? There's a world of difference, especially in terms of Internet access to training, ordering and over-all communication. It is my opinion that the best time to join Avon is "NOW." There are opportunities with Avon to earn just a little, or if you have career aspirations, you even have the ability to grow to over a six-figure income. 

My particular goal is somewhere in the middle. I enjoy having a team, but I also enjoy other endeavors which take up a little time. So, I'd say my income goal right now is around $25k/year (part-time). I can see this happening within my first year. I don't want to be one of those who spends everything they make. My goal is to empower women who have the drive to succeed, with a proven vehicle to success. Whether they decide to make a career with Avon, or just want to pursue the opportunity for a given time, is up to them.

Multiple Streams of Income|Nerium|Empower Network|EPX

It has been a little over a month since I had left my job as a call center rep (CSR) at Convergys in Chattanooga. There are many people who work there (I'm thinking about 800). I only worked there right at nine months, but this place is a revolving door. There are many people doing an incredible job in a very stressful situation. If you have ever worked in this type of environment, you will know what I'm talking about. If you have never worked in a call center, let me tell you -- it is a position which cannot easily be explained, only experienced. A job like this can stretch a person in many ways including being able to deal with negative people and situations. It is definitely not for the thin-skinned. When I first began, I loved my job. It was more general and easily tolerated. I had been attending college, majoring in Media Technology, and felt that since Directv was a form of mass media, I would like to experience this aspect. It was more than I bargained for, to say the least.  As I said, my first position was fun, for the most part because I was just being of service and helping with general questions, etc. But then, I got a so-called "raise" to a positon in Customer Retention. This position entailed customer loyalty and offering customers special incentives to stay. Some customers had already switched to a different provider. There is too much, and would probably be boring for me to go into it, but this position entailed anything that could not be handled by the first department (ACE). There was very little I liked about this second position, but I had no choice in accepting the so called "promotion." Was there anything I liked? I would have to give you a flat "no," except for the fact of knowing that I was supposed to be there for a specific period of time in order to be stretched for what lie ahead.  For me, the worst thing was solving technical problems; I had been brought up in a certain way -- and tech was just not one of the things a woman did. I had no interest in tech, and just half-way cringed when I got a customer on the line who had a problem. The calls were not mundane; it seemed that each call was different to some degree. Learning how to deal with their situation as well as developing a relationship with the customer in a short period of time was the goal -- because the company found that this helped lead to customer loyalty, and that was the name of the game -- keeping the customer.

I had developed some type of respiratory problem and had planned my vacation (which, by the way had to be done five weeks in advance). So, my whole vacation was spent in the bed sick. But this gave me plenty of time to think and decide what was my next step. I definitely did not want to stay at a job I hated. I had worked in a home business before, and knew that this was what I wanted to do again because it gave me time freedom and flexibility.

When I left my job, the only money I had was a paycheck for two weeks which was a little over $800. I signed up with Nerium International the very day I resigned. A regional seminar was taking place in Dallas about two weeks away. I heard that still small voice telling me to go ahead and prepare for the trip, that it would be very important to my future. So, I booked the trip and attended the meeting. You might ask where I got the money to go or why I would do that. The reason is because of that still small voice I have heard so many times that never steered me wrong. Miraculously I received a check for $1000 in earnings from another start-up company. That is where the money to pay for the trip came from. So, I knew that decision was right. Now, as far as working the business, I was having difficulties --not because the product or company was not good. It was because I was not operating in the right manner. I learned when I received my success kit that the right way to promote a business is to be the messenger and not the message -- and to let the third-party tools do the work. So, now that I know what I was doing wrong, I expect the future to be much better. I have been using the product now for about 7 days (my other bottles were sold before I could even get to use mine --- I didn't plan it that way; it just happened.

Many people when they start a home-based business have certain ways they want to work the business, but the truth is: if you go by success strategies formed by the company, you are more likely to be successful. I had always wanted to be part of something big. A start-up company which has not reached its full potential is the best route. Now, I had been that route before -- starting with several brand new companies, just to see them fail after I had put my sweat, time and energy into them. I had several big groups with different companies. But now, Nerium being over a year old -- and not have market penetration of saturation, I felt I had a winner. Presently, there is only one product (Nerium AD), but many products will be released. Thirty percent of all profits go towards research. Nerium is a real company with real products. The compensation plan is phenomenal with a way we receive product to replenish our inventory, when we sign up a new preferred customer or brand partner. 

Now, when I had worked in the home-based market before, I had a blog (the same one you are reading now). You can look back and see some of my previous posts. So, I knew getting the word out as to what I was doing would lend me more credibility and visibility on the Internet. I knew some of the strategies to get noticed, but I also knew that some people were just searching for a sponsor -- and just because you are noticed, does not mean a prospect will align themselves with you. Practice Smiling

When I was a kid, I was pretty shy. Some of it probably had to do with the fact that my Dad was a barber and he didn't want me to talk to his customers. I kept myself busy cleaning combs, washing counters, sweeping the floor and running to get coffee for my Dad, my Grandfather, Uncle Hoyt and Henry Burns. The barbershop was one of the hubs of the  community. My Dad and my family, in general, were icons in our small little carved out section of town.

So, if I kept quiet and didn't smile that much, then when did I learn about the art of smiling? Well, I guess it came later around the age of 12 when I would stand in front of the Bi-Rite and sell Grit newspapers. Although I was shy, standing there and smiling at each customer and asking them if they'd like to buy a Grit Newspaper, brought me a certain sense of power. I liked knowing that I was responsible for having my own money and not having to ask anybody for anything. I remember, even while younger asking my mother if she had any money so I could walk the short distance to the E-Z and buy candy for a penney. I can still hear her now, saying, "I don't have one red cent," and she was honest. I see now how difficult it must have been having to raise four children and still having anything left over. Every little thing back then was a treat.




And later in high school, walking down the halls, I always saw that the ones who were the most popular would smile. I love to smile now. Even when things are not going right or my situation is difficult, smiling just has a way of making everything better.

Later in life, my mother told me that she could tell how much money I had in my purse by the expression on my face. So, in order to keep that smile, I guess, I still do things to make extra money. It's a lot easier to smile when you have money.

Wow, I can hardly believe it has been almost a year since the last time I blogged. In the mean time, my domain, christianhomebased. com, which I had for quite some time, actually expired and somebody else snatched it up.

So, everybody wants to know what I'm doing and what happened. Most people know, I had previously been a rep for GBG, then Yoli, then ViSalus (all which had fabulous weight loss products). I actually lost around 8 lbs with each company's products. They are all fantastic companies, and I don't have anything against any of them. I especially liked the owners with each of them and the relationships I had with many of the reps. All had incredible products that worked -- but what happened was I decided to go back to college. At 58, it was a little difficult , to say the least. Because there was a special grant available through my state for people who had been laid off from work, I accepted the challenge. Only one problem: I wanted to major in Media Technology and learn more about marketing over the internet, but this was not an acceptable career field, according to my counselor. So, what I did was major in Media Technology with a secondary in Graphics Design just to get a few of the subjects I was interested in. Now, I have no passion or even interest in Graphics Art, even though graduates are highly desired and well paid.  I couldn't draw a stick. I did go ahead and finish out one semester, taking Media Technology, Art Appreciation, Speech and Web Design. I wound  up with an A in Media Technology, B in Speech and a C in Art Appreciation. Whatever education I desire, I can get here right from the comfort of my home.

Now, in the mean time, I was trying to find a part-time JOB (you know -- just over broke) which did not conflict with my church, and I was offered three different positions: a kiosk operator for a newspaper here -- Chattaooga Times Free Press, a door-to-door sales position with Comcast in Chattanooga, and then a position with a Convergys Chattanooga as a customer service rep for Directv. I actually went through all the formalities with the first and second options and had already taken my drug test and background check, but ultimately chose Convergys Chattanooga, because I though I could go to school and work also.--wrong-- lol -- What I found out for me, was that the job was too stressful and took so much emotional energy, that I just didn't have enough left over to do something in network marketing, which was one of my passions because I like to help encourage others spiritually and financially.  I didn't even have the energy to go see my grandchildren I dearly love, who had moved only an hours drive away.

Well, after nine months, I got both physically and mentally sick. I always say: "I don't get sick and I don't hang around people who talk sickness or get sick," and usually, I don't. I don't know if the job caused me to manifest sickness or what, but I found myself wanting to quit. Now I had a scheduled vacation, which by the way, I had to schedule five weeks in advance. I spent the whole week in the bed. So, this gave me time to think about my life and career. Now,  it really didn't take much thought and prayer, and soon I began to feel God wanted me to leave. I had heard his voice before and knew from experience he would take care of me. So, with not much money, except my last paycheck, I left for good. No talking it over with supervisors or an operations manager; it just wasn't necessary. I knew I was not going to go back to a regular job again. So, as I was looking for a produt to promote, I found Nerium  I started getting excited as I shared before and after pictures with my Facebook. I knew I had a winner. Nerium is not just another "me too" product. The results are very dramatic, and being only a little over a year old, I felt I could go places with Nerium if I would focus. A convention was coming up in Dallas Texas, February 14-17 at the Gaylord Grapevine, and still even though I had little money, I booked my room, flight and conference, knowing this was my next step towards turn-a-round.

Well, here I go again. The life of a network marketer can be topsy turvy at times, especially. when all the needed elements for success are not in place. Like many others, I decided to switch to the ViSalus 90 Day Challenge. Wow, this  has definitely been a journey in regards to weight loss. I am very excited about the challenge and especially my upline. If you are new to network marketing, the term "upline" refers to your  sponsor, his sponsor, on up.

Yoli Better Body 30 Day Transformation System - The Decision|Cindy Brooks (423) 635-4492

A few weeks ago, I looked up an old friend, David Hull, on Facebook. We had previously been affiliated with each other in another network marketing company over ten years ago. David is so much fun to be around and was previously a stand-up comedian, which actually comes in handy in Network Marketing. If you've been around in the industry, you probably know what I mean. Network marketing and working with GBG, my Christian Homebased company, is exciting and has allowed me to be able to to be flexible in my lifestyle. Being a grandmother is even more exciting.

Memories can only be made one time. Developing strong bonds with your children and grandchildren is important. 

The above video was made only eight months ago. How fast time flies. Lost moments can never be regained. Now with a new grandson, I plan on capturing more moments into my memory and those of my grandchildren.

My son who, due to an economic turn-a-round in the United States, lost his job and was forced to take a job which required him to drive 120 miles each way to work and back. Day in, day out for two long years --along with working his job was very hard for him -- but he just did it. His home would have been hard to sell at that time because it was a brand new home in a new subdivision and there he was "stuck," but making lemonade out of lemons. Life had dealt him a lemon, but he made lemonade. I was proud of him for sticking with it, and all his hard work eventually paid off. I had been praying for him to be able to find a job closer to me so that I might be able to visit my grandchildren. Because they had lived a 5-hr. drive away, it was hard for me to just hop in the car and take off. God answered my prayer and gave him a really good job that he enjoys (and even pays more) which is less than a 2-hr drive for me.

Last week when I visited him and his wife and my two grandchildren (aged 5 mos. and 2 yrs); I had the privilege of reading my grand daughter to sleep. It was really one of he the sweetest moments in my life, almost indescribable. Seeing her in her little "big girl" bed and seeing her shut as she looked at me and said "swee deams," in an almost inaudible whisper-- there was nothing like it. God answered my prayer, and I am so thankful that he still hears and answers prayer. My son no longer has to drive 120 miles each way. He only drives a few miles and can even come home at lunch. What a difference a "prayer" makes. 

Now, I can hop in the car, stay a few hours, go out to dinner or whatever -- and my life has more meaning. Now, I could not do this if God did not answer prayer or if I were having to work a regular job. It might conflict with other activities planned or my job. One of the best things about working from home is flexibility and being able to do things spontaneously. 

Network marketing is not my only stream of income. I do have others; I have really not  "worked" at network marketing that much for the last year. I have mainly been working on myself as an individual and also learning social media marketing. Once a person gets involved in network marketing, he may be tempted to jump around from company to company, when things don't go as smoothly or as fast as anticipated in growing their team. A person may jump around from company to company and find that they have wasted much time, energy and money. I have had teams as large as 8000 in the past, but -- if you know what network marketing is, you will realize that much of your success hinges on those you sponsor and if they duplicate your efforts. You must sponsor quality people who are success oriented, and then show them the way or where to receive more training.

When examining my Facebook friends, where I do much of my contact and encouragement, I find many are wealthy, or do they just appear to be?  Utilizing social media, a person can be so much larger than they really are. You can give people a perception of most anything you want them to believe. I try my best to be "real."   I find often people are attracted to those who have used "attraction marketing" to elevate themselves to a believable perception in others eyes. It is often hard to resist the temptation that I have "arrived,"  but I'm still on a journey. I have not arrived at my destination. By keeping my mind on the journey itself, I find I can help more people than I could had I already arrived. They can relate to me because I understand the situation of the person who is not where they want to be in life. I can empathize with their situation, because I have probably already been there myself and went on to a higher level through Christ. It all begins with mindset.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus -- Philippians 2:5

As far as finances go, I have had both prosperity and poverty in terms of money. Both levels of financial prosperity contain their own set of contentment. Many people spend so much time in the pursuit of riches that they have no life. So much talk in the Christian realm is about being prosperous financially --that the true message of the gospel is often left untouched.

My main goal today is to let you know that just because you've been knocked down, you can get back up. Don't worry about what other people think. Continue your fight. Write out your purpose and begin to live it. You will be elevated, but in due season. Continue to read and meditate on the scripture and listen to the Holy Spirit as your guide. There are so many voices you can hear. The main one to listen to is the voice of the Holy Spirit. Your journey will be completely different from anybody else's.

Romans 3:12 "Let God be true and every man a liar."


I pray for God's blessings to be on you today as you live in the light of God's word. If you begin to feel depressed or fearful, you are experiencing a spirit (it could be a spirit of fear, depression or even rejection). These spirits are used to paralyze you into inaction. The enemy wants you to remain fearful and paralyzed so that you do nothing for the kingdom of God . God wants you to be victorious in your journey here on earth--that is the reason "fear not" is splattered across the pages of the scripture. The message was even splattered in his precious blood.

Remember, if you are spending much time in Social Media, people are not always what they are perceived to be, so your true direction as a Christian needs to come from the word and the Holy spirit. We must recognize and act on the voice of the Holy Spirit.  God has given you your own anointing/gifting. Pursue your gifting with passion.

As a sidenote, for those who are watching my journey with GBG, I begin today to take Willpower in a Bottle, which is our new weight loss product. A couple of months ago, I had been in the process of moving and left some of my things in storage (including a set of scales). GBG|Christian Homebased Business|Advice: Don't Speak Unless You Have Something to Say

Having a Christian homebased business allows me to make my own choices in life without the fear and limitations of having someone else determine my future. The main reason for me to work from home is one word -- flexibility. I realize my ultimate success is determined by me. There are no excuses for not achieving success with my company, GBG, other than lack of focus or being afraid of my own success. For awhile now, I haven't posted on my blog. I've been in transition and moving to another location in the city. My transition was not an easy choice, but a necessary choice. Most of the time, when we look at our life--we realize it is a total of the choices of the choices we have made.

In my twenties, I remember a conversation I was having with a person from a different country. His way of relating to me was different than most. His attitudes were different and his values were different. I tried my best to get him to open up by talk....talk....talking. One day as we were walking and I was talking, he turned to me and said, "don't speak unless you have something to say." It caught me off guard, but I have often thought of that from time to time. Sometimes we talk so much about nothing that when we do have something we really want to relate, nobody listens or the meaning is not as impactful as it could be had we not talked all the time.

I think with the age of Social Media in full swing and our friends (both new and old) as close as a Facebook message, our interaction is often too much. We might have to do as my friend said, "do not speak unless you have something to say."

In my next few posts, I will be explaining to you part of the reason I continue to choose network marketing as my vehicle for my Plan B.

GBG|Christian Homebased Business|Gives Time Freedom and Flexibility

One of my favorite things about my Christian homebased business, GBG, is time freedom and flexibility. Some successful people who work in this arena will tell you that there is nothing like it in terms of time freedom and flexibility. Now, there's definitely a fine line in using your time properly and deciding exactly how much time is necessary to contribute to your endeavor in order to make success possible, and there is also a fine line in determining the exact financial level a person may be desiring to achieve. For Moms wishing to stay home with their children, they sometimes find that just by learning to conserve in specific areas along with the extra income derived from their business, they may come out ahead by staying at home. When you take into consideration that there are many tax advantages for having a home based business as well as not having to pay a sitter or pay for gasoline and more expensive clothes, the financial aspect sometimes makes having a homebased business an obvious choice.



The problem with working a regular job when Moms would rather be at home with their children is that many Moms have not sat down and actually weighed the costs. The costs are not only financial but also emotional. Ask most Moms and they will tell you that there's nothing like the feeling of being free from obligations, especially when a child is sick or seems to need extra attention. Many Moms also feel guilty leaving a crying baby. Although the crying is usually temporary, it still leaves a horrid vision in the mind of a Mom as she continues to do her best to give her family the life she wants so much for them to have.


During most of my son's early years, I worked from home with a flexible schedule. We slept late and had fun together. Would it have been possible for me to play airplane with baby food while trying my best to get ready for work? Would it have been possible for me to stay with him when he was not really that sick, but sick enough to need his Mommy? The best thing to do if you are considering staying home with your children is to begin a homebased business while you are still working. By doing this, you should be able to learn the ins and outs of the business and get over any learning curve you may need, especially if it is network marketing. Finding the right company is key in being able to achieve the financial security you may need.  By staying in the marketplace for awhile, you may find that you have more contacts to market to -- on a personal basis locally. Many people involved in network marketing will tell you that it is important to have both an online and offline presence.

Being a Mom is such a privilege and honor. Providing for your children is very important also - both financially and spiritually. Many Moms want their children to have their own values - not that of someone else. They may find that the only way to control that aspect is by working from home--a good alternative.

GBG|Christian Homebased Business|You Got to have a Map or at least a GPS

Putting my Christian homebased business on the backburner is an easy thing to do and  it seems I can always come up with some sort of excuse, if I have to--but most of the time, I get sidetracked by distractions that seem important at the time. In reality, however, my lack of focus is due to lack of clearly defined goals.

Life happens to the best of us. Some people may tell you that when they are handed a lemon, they make lemonade. Some people just look at the lemon, tell you how much they hate it and then try to pretend it is not there. What am I talking about? What I'm talking about is when life happens, we have a decision to make: are we going to face the problem head on or procrastinate and do nothing about the situation. If we choose the latter, our life may soon becomes a blur of unfinished tasks and projects.
 

There comes a point when we are given a wakeup call and must decide to do something about our situation or pay the penalty of forfeiting what God has planned for us. Lack of focus is a killer. It is often easier to get off track than to get back on track.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.



We all veer off the path God has planned for us from time to time, but we can all get back on track. One thing I do when I get off track is go on a date with myself. I take myself to a nice restaurant or somewhere I can just think and be alone with my thoughts and plans and also at the same time look for direction from God. I take my tablet and write down those things which are important to me and goals I wish to accomplish. If I've veered too far off course, I know it is even time to get away by myself for a day or two. Now, I know that is not possible for everyone, especially if you have many responsibilities, but re-evaluation is necessary to get yourself back on track. (Keep your tablet by your bed and write down ideas or thoughts as they come). We often get overwhelmed with thoughts and our minds are here, there, and nowhere.

      That he may run who reads it.
      ³ For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
      But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
      Though it tarries, wait for it;
      Because it will surely come,
      It will not tarry.
      

With my Christian homebased business, GBG, we have a list of ten commitments which were designed by our team leader, CJ (Charles Johns) to keep us going in the right direction. Many times, I find that if I am not moving forward, it is often that I have failed to accomplish one of the commitments.

Some people treat network marketing as if it were a lottery, joining any new company which comes along--just because it may look good on the surface. But, there are so many features a person must look for in choosing the right network marketing company. I really believe I chose the right one with GBG.

When I was laid off, I really wasted a lot of money trying to find the right vehicle for success, when it was right under my nose all along. I was a customer with GBG first before I ever began to tell others about the money which could be made with the product.

Since life had happened to me lately, my homebased business really took a back seat. But now, again--I'm back on the journey towards success. My excuses for not moving forward are in the past now.

If you are involved in network marketing and feel you are where God wants you to be with the right company, just begin again. Don't give up. Take your legal pad with you and ask God to reveal to you the right steps for success. He really wants you to prosper and be in good health, both of which are possible benefits with our company and maybe yours too.

Each person has the opportunity to choose failure or success. Today can be your time for a turnaround in your business. Don't let others dictate your success. The price for success may not be easy, but it will definitely be easier if you have a roadmap for success. The right vehicle is necessary, but by actually stopping and determining an action plan, you will be more apt to succeed.

Also, there is so much out on the Internet, you will be tempted to be distracted. You may need to decide how much time you are availing yourself to each project. Find out what actions you are doing which are bringing you closer to your goals, and then concentrate on those specific areas.

I really hope I have motivated you to get out of complacency and do something. Begin with a plan, your plan.

Christian Homebased|GBG|Nothing Ever Stays the Same

It has been nine days now since I've posted to my blog. A death in the family is hard to take, but life goes on. One person dies and another is born. As I think about my step-father and watching him take his last breath, my daughter-in-law is expected to give birth to a new member of the family.

As we think about all those people in Japan and the earthquake and tsunami, we realize how fragile life just really is. No person is ever confident of what will happen next. For those of us who are Christians, we realize and have the knowledge that God is in control. We may not understand, but we have faith to believe that in the midst of all turmoil, there is an awareness that all is fitting into God's plan.

So, it's back to work. Yes, I did take time off to rest. My homebased business allowed me to do that. Had I been working a regular JOB, I would have had no other choice but to go back to work immediately if I expected to keep my JOB. Still, however, some think network marketing is like: sign up a lot of people and let them do all the work while you just sit there drawing a residual income check from the efforts of others. Maybe for a few fortunate people who just happened to sponsor the right people, this might be the case. Yes, as their residual income checks come in, they may be able to sleep late, go to expensive restaurants and have a high standard of living. My firm belief is that if they think that is what life is all about, they are wrong. Giving hope to people is not all about telling them that they can drive expensive cars and live in expensive houses surrounded by expensive things which may have no meaning. This is not my idea of what wealth really is. My idea of wealth is time freedom and freedom from financial worries, while at the same time helping others achieve the lifestyle of freedom they desire. Most people on my team with GBG have already been elevated to some type of financial level. Tribute to My Step-father -- Otto Timms, Calhoun, GA

Today, my blog post is not about GBG; it is not about my Christian Homebased business. Today my post is a special post to pay honor to Otto Timms, my stepfather--a very unique person. Calhoun, Georgia lost a legend as his silver cord was finally loosed.

 Ecclesiastes 12:6 Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the well. 

It's all over now--no more crying, no more tears, no more pain, no more worry--no more holding on for Otto. One by one they came--starting at 5:00 and ending at 9:00 yesterday, as over 1000 friends and relatives, some waiting in line as long as two hours,  paying tribute and final respects to a man who had become a legend to those who knew him best--racing fans. This year marked the 50th anniversary of his beloved Paradise Drag Strip. Otto had passed away on a race day, to the sound of racing cars in the background and surrounded by his loving family. Never a man to give up, he endured and persevered to the end until that final goodbye--hoping for his miracle and for someone to find out what was wrong with him. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, a very cruel disease which not only effects the individual but also every person who loves them.

There is a scribbled written note my mother found written last year on a Christmas card which says it all - "I'm locked inside a box and can't get out. Will pay when I get it."  Nobody ever found Otto's secret key; but still, always, in Otto fashion, he continued to believe until that final goodbye.




As Otto's body was viewed, my mother stood devotedly beside the casket for the entire duration and never sat down or even left the room to take a break--the same devotion she had to her husband of over 45 years, my step-father (the man who was always there) -- Otto Timms. Otto was a one-of-a-kind man known mostly by me for his work ethic and his art for risk taking and "just believing."

Today, a gathering of friends and relatives participated in the final ritual, a funeral held at the church across the street from the Drag Strip,  before giving a one last ride down the drag strip in the hearse.

Avoiding the Victim Mentality|AVON|Christian Homebased Business

Lately at the church I have been attending, I was made aware of a phenomena called "victim mentality." This disease strikes many people due to the fact that these people crave attention and will play the victim at any cost. Let me tell you--the cost is high not only to them, but to those with whom they associate. These people who play the victim in almost all circumstances will rob you of your most precious commodity here on earth---time. They will also rob you of your emotions and try their best to bring you down to their level. They will tell you that they have discussed their situation with everybody and their brother -- but they still need your opinion. They will tell you they have countless people to pray for them, but they still need you to pray for them too.

It is my opinion that these people crave attention and are self absorbed. God only gives us so much time on earth and desires that we use it wisely. We can take some time with them, but if they are not responsive -- they must begin to pray themselves. Over and over the endless pleas come in as we become a willing vessel for satan's tactics. Satan comes to kill and destroy. He wants to rob us of our time.

Psalms 90:12 (KJV) So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

I have compassion with people, but often these people are in no worse situation than I, myself, am in. I choose to move to the next level. It is my responsibility to find the vehicle to move me to the next level.  God has given us so many promises in his word that if we will just take a few and dwell on them, he will supernaturally move us forward. He allows us to go through the valley to strengthen us, but sooner or later we will come through if we continue to trust in him and his word.

I am just not a good person to come to if a person wants pity. I will tell them what has carried me through, but I will not pity them. We all live in the same world and all have the same choices. Some people are in the situations they are in due to negative choices they have made. Their present situation is only the outcome of those decisions. In order for things to change, they have to change--and many are just not willing to change.

II Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

I refuse to be a victim. God --what do I have or tell me, Lord, what do I need to get me to the place you have prepared for me? What strategy and what action do you want me to take. Lord, I am not afraid for you are with me. Many people are in a worse situation and, I know that in many countries with my limited possessions I would be viewed as being "rich." Lord, I am "rich" in all things. Forgive me for not appreciating what you have put in my hand. Please, Lord, just give me the wisdom to know what to do with what I have or where to go to get what I need. You are my rock, Lord -- and my provider. I trust in you Lord. Thank you for what you have put in my hand.
